Explore the incredible caves of Aktun Chen

Spelunking is defined as "the exploration of caves as a hobby" and there is no better place to become a "spelunker" than in the caves of Aktun Chen in the Riviera Maya. The Aktun Chen caves were formed about 5 million years ago, for a long time it was underwater and part of the coral reef system. The ice age brought about change and the caves developed further with porous limestone creating incredible stalactites and stalagmites that you’ll see on your explorations in this Riviera Maya day trip.

Your knowledgeable guide at Aktun Chen Park will teach you all about the cave system and the history of the region, including the cultural and religious significance of the caves to both ancient and modern day Maya societies. You'll marvel at the age-old formations, natural art that will take your breath away!

Guests at Aktun Chen caves are welcome to the use of lockers & restrooms. This is a Riviera Maya excursion for true explorers!
