Hotels tend to have incredible white sand beaches and seven colours clear waters, that is part of the magic. Resorts on the short end tend to be more gentle waters, because the waves here are blocked by the island of Isla Mujeres which lies just off shore.
Cancun is also the gateway to Riviera Maya, another tourist interesting place in the area, where people go attracted by the numerous archaeological sites, as Chichen-Itza, Tulum and Coba, lovely towns as Playa del Carmen or sail to Isla Mujeres, and theme parks such as Xcaret Eco-park, Xplor and Xel Ha.
